Question
QUESTION: I'm a manager for a restaurant chain that has just bought another place. Somehow I was assigned to the tending to of the saltwater aquarium they left behind. Its currently a very dark brownish green and has this one poor lil fish in it who must be pretty miserable. None of us know anything about aquariums, and I have been researching, but I'm very overwhelmed. Where do I even begin?
ANSWER: unfortunatly when the tank gets like that the best thing to do it empty it, give it a good scrub down and start again.

what kind of equipment is there on the tank?
should be whats called a protein skimmer (big clear tube with a collection cup at the top and has bubbles running through it)
perhaps there is a filter canister?
what size is the tank?

sorry for the questions, if i know whats on the tank and what size it is i will be better able to help you out.
i guess thats a good starting point for you to reserch if you wan't to keep the tank running, marine tank equipment.

also where abouts are you based? may know someone in your local area that could pop in and help.

QUESTION: Im in South Florida on the gulf. So far all I know is that its a 92 gallon tank. As for the equipment I have no clue. When we took this place over the previous business had just closed the night before and the place was disgusting. I doubt they ever really did anything to the fish thats in it or kept up on the pumps and filter. Theres no decorations or anything for it so it must be pretty bored sick and lonely... We have been doing our renovations so far so the place isnt open but to be open I rather get the fish taken care of before anything else.
ANSWER: ah well i am a few thousand miles away in the uk, sorry i can't help there. best thing to do is find a local marine shop and see if they will take the fish off your hands.

are you going to keep the tank?

QUESTION: Yes, we are keeping the tank and unfortunatly the poor lil guy died last night, that poor fish was a trooper.... and on top of all my freaking out they have now decided to just keep lobster in it.... story of my life...

Answer
sorry to hear that he died. if you wan't an easyer fish to look after without the salt water, african malawi cichlids are very bright and colourfull. Much easyer to look after, they are pretty bullet proof and have great characters, will keep your diners amused for hours.

to me they are the closest thing to marine fish just without the added expense and salt.

stay in touch i'd be quite interested to see how this turns out.
