QuestionIm interested in attempting a new reef tank and through my research Ive found that what I want is a bit out of my price range for now.. my original plan was to get a 100g+ tank but since I misunderstood the needs for a reef tank. It requires a sump tank, live rock 1lb per gallon in which 1lb is usually $5 per lb is a bit expensive. From something I thought I can get for under $1k... Im wanting something that will equal up to $5k+. Well, the point of this rant is to find something under $1k.
Ive been going through forums to find something called nano-reefs in the 12g to 32g range? What is your opinion for starting out there?
More specifically, Im looking at a Fennix M tank 32g or 28g or can you provide an opinion of something similar?
Im thinking about just putting some live rock in with an anemone and a couple of clown fish...
Is this a good place to start?
Answerhi, nano reefs can be hard to look after as there is such a small volume of water, can be hard to keep the water perameters in line. the bigger tanks dilute the nasties to a much lower level, makes it easy to look after.
unfortunatly live rock is probably the most expensive thing that is essential to the tank, i think the second hand market is the way to go, failing that buy the most liverock you can afford and try and source some reef bones or similar.
i think if you were to buy a small tank you will "get the bug" like every marine aquarist i know and wan't to upgrade.
also forget the nenny, they need very good water conditions and great flow in the tank, they seldom do well in the aquarium.
