Question
Hello, my name is Shannon I would like some information on beginning and maintaining a saltwater aquarium. I honestly dont know anything about it, but would love to learn and own one. I would like to know how to begin such as what kind of aquirum is best in size for a small-med size apatment? also what equipment I need to start up with? and what fish are best to start out with? how often do you clean the tank?

Answer

Shannon,
I would go with an All-Glass Brand ranging between 30 to 55 gallons.
You will need the following:
Tank 30-55 gallons
Stand
Lights 3-5 watts per gallon
Heater ranging between 75 and 150 watts
Live rock or live sand
a good hang-over filter that filters about 300 gallon per hour. Carbon and floss
Hydrometer to measure salinity
Test kits (marine Master is good)
1-2 Powerheads
Net,food, ten gallon bucket
Instant Ocean to prepare your water
tap water conditioner.

I do a 10% water change per week.
When you get these items I will give you a step-by-step setup. I will also give you the best fish for a starter tank.
Good Luck
Todd
