Question
Hi, I have just invested in a new salt water aquarium. It has been up and running for about 4 weeks now and all is well except the protein skimmer. I have a SeaClone 100 skimmer and I cant figure out how to prevent microbubbles from entering the tank. When I increase the airflow, the bubbles get worse and when I decrease the flow they get better, but no foam is produced in the collection chamber.
Thanks,
Roberta

Answer

Roberta,
I am not familar with the Sea Clone skimmmer.  I can only guess that in new set-ups there is never alot a foam in the collection chamber due to the low dissolved organics or waste of the tank.  I have had this happen to me from time to time when the bioload of my tank is small.  Wait another 2 weeks because your tank is still in the break-in phase.
I never get that much foam until my tank has been running for at least 6-8 weeks.

I hope this helps
Good Luck Todd
