Question
my brother reccomened me this site and was wondering if you would happen to be able to tell me the type of fish i have.I recently looked in my slatwater lake and caught 2 goby type looking fish.they are dark brown witha light brown belly and have blue-white vertical stripes on their body.i really like  the look of them and are wondering if the woulld get along with my corals or reef fish.thanx for the help

Answer
Hello Tom,

I WOULD NOT PUT ANYTHING LIKE THAT INTO MY REEF TANK.

There are many things to consider here.  First and foremost, I would never condone or suggest to folks to catch and take anything wild into captivity.  The fish and marine life we use and get from local fish stores are screened and regulation in place to make sure that the harvesting is done with considerations or ecological sustainability is considered.

Then there are issues relating to keeping the critters you coaught in the same water parameters.  Is teh 'saltwater lake' the same pH, and the same temperature, and the same salinity?

And btw, where is this 'saltwater lake'.    Not too many of those around my part of the world???

So, if you are in the mind to keep those critters, I would suggest setting up a 'species tank' and keeping it at the same paramters as your point of origin, and then keeping them by themselves, to allow them the greatest chance for survival.

Good luck.

Bill
