Question
HI,

I have a question about Blue Tang. I have a 55G tank that I bought from someone used and have had it for two onths and have added a number of corrals to it.

The reef tank that have has Sail fin Tang, Two clown fish and a two damsels a number of snails and two cleaner shrimp.

My Yellow eye tang died two days ago and my Blue tang is dyiing. I change 10% water everyother week.

At this time To my reef tank I have added relieve per my local guy and have made my fresh water 10 gallon tank into a QT tank and have added the Blue tang to it with fungus medicine. The bluw tang has glazed grey eyes.

It has been in there and is not eating and has been upside down or lying on its side. Howwever whenever I tap on the glass it seem to react and makes a little effort and moves. I can also see its muth moving even though he is in those positions.

Is he still really alive or his gills are just moving due to reaction. Dont know. Any advice.

Answer
Hi Kazi,
Sorry to hear about your losses and troubles. With out pictures I cant be exact here. Are you positive he has a fungal problem? Using a medication for an ailment that a fish does not have can do more harm than good. The eyes glazing or fogging is usually a sign of bacterial infection or nutritional issues. I would look for an antibiotic treatment, stop the fungal treatment, and try using a garlic/selcon(vitamin) soak with his foods to get him eating again if he is responding. Let me know how it goes.
