Question
Hi, I just purchased an old 300 gallon Tenecor acrylic tank that had freshwater fish. It has no filtration or lighting. I am going to set up saltwater "fish" tank but I have been out of the hobby for a few years. Can you advise me on the best filtration,ie wet/dry and lighting? thanks, Greg  ps: any ideas on getting scratches off inside of tank?

Answer
Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. First the scratches can be removed if they are not too deep. Search on-line for acrylic scratch removal kits. On the tank filtration, if you are not on a real tight budget, This is what I always have good luck with; A good canister, sump/refugium, skimmer, live sand, and live rock. Lighting all depends on weather or not you are setting up a Fish only, Or a reef. For fish only a good PC setup will be fine. For a reef, I would go with VHO, metal halide, and moonlights, all set up on timers. With a 300 gal and the wattage of lights you would need for a reef I would also recommend a Chiller, and don't forget a heater. Let me know how you decide to go and i can help with quantities, and wattage of lights for a reef.
