Question
hello,
i have a 2000l saltwater tank and i want to connect the co2 to the ph controler computer to make the ph level go down,do you think it is a good ideaor would it result in other problems. what is the best level for the ph? in my tank it is now 8.4 so if this level is high what should i do?

Answer
Hello Eman,

a pH of 8.4 is ok.

And no, you would NEVER want to add co2 directly to the tank... that is WAY dangerous...

ther are products to lower the pH if it gets too high, but really, i have never seen it ever get used...

Please do a couple things for me...

Test your test kit, that is, calilbrate it with a known pH solution.. the easiest way to do this iis to compare to antother test kit, or to test water that you know the pH of..

some people might use distilled water to test 0 pH but that is on the end of the scale, it would be good to purchase calibration solution of pH 7.0  or 10.0

and note how close or how far off your test kit is... and make those adjustments when doing hte readings...

also, make sure you test at the same time of day...  pH will go up and down depending on the time of day or whether or not the lights are on...

you can see my pH over time, and or change the time range to see how the green graph changes...

if the pH goes way up, you can lower it, but something caused it to go up and finding that source/problem is key...

but for now, I dont think you should worry too much..

good luck, and maybe you can contact me and post more info about your tank on my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com

see you there...
