Question
i have had my black moor just over a month he has been fine the water was tested before i purchased him and the tank ran for just over two weeks before he was added. unfortunately over the past week he has deteriorated i have been regularly changing about a quater of the water weekly sometimes twice a week. Recently i have found him laying on his side and now he is at the bottom laying on his side, with his gills and mouth moving. i am not sure what is wrong can anyone help please.

Answer
Hello,

First of all, don't change so much water! This will actually not help your fish, as it results in loss of beneficial bacteria and raises the level of nitrites.

It sound to me like your fish could be suffering from nitrite posioning. I recommend either buying a nitrite test kit or brining a sample to a pet store that will test it for you. If it is higher then 0.3 ppm, it is unsafe. I also recommend adding Cycle by Nutrafin once a week.

You should only be chaning 10% of the water a week.

Hope this helps, good luck.
