Question
its the tank my mother gave me when my husband and I found our first place together, I got it 2 days ago and since I have had to change ALL the water and re-rinse everything. no chemicals or anything at all. (its a real pain in the ass) the water has not been tested for anything but its temperature which is in normal range. we use an anti-chlorine  and our filter is a whisper 2006 I think. I know its a newer whisper. everything is what my mom gave us.

i just cannot seem to keep my 55 gallon tank clear! I changed the water 2 days in a row thinking it could be the rocks needing to be cleaned, but this morning I woke up and the water looked horrible along with a few dead fish! I used a water clear formula that my mother gave me to use in mine as she does with hers and its just not working for me! please help!!!

Before I can really help you I need a bit more information, once I get this I can better assist you.
How long have you had the tank?
Did you change all the water? If not what percentage did you change?
What kind of filter do you have? Brand etc. ?
Have you had your water tested for ammoinia, nitrate and nitrite, pH? If so what were the results?
Please get back to me so we can get this fixed!!

Answer
With your tank being so new the cloudiness will most likely go away on its own. When you water begins to cycle and build good bacteria you will get an ammonia bloom which most of time causes this cloudiness you are seeing. If you want to speed up the cycle process you can buy a product called cycle which is basically a bottle of good bacteria to put in your tank to kick start it. If it is not clear after about 3-4 days take a sample of your water and have it tested for nitrate, nitrite, ammoinia and pH. Most fish retailers will either do this for free or for a minimal fee. That test will tell you whats going on with the water chemistry in the tank, you will not want to add fish for about a week after set up. When you add your initial fish get a hardy fish like zebra danios as your tank will start a cycle again but they most often have no problems with chemical changes in the water chemistry. The cloudiness sucks but it should go away. If I can be of any more help please let me know, best of luck and happy fish keeping.
