Betta fish and Tetra Lifeguard

Question
Is it safe to use Tetra "Lifeguard" for my betta Fish?  He has spots on him that look like little scabbed over sores.  Like an ouchie on a human.  Other than that he is active good eater.  I feed him betta flakes and brine shrimp. We've only had him two weeks and these spots developed the 2nd week.  He is by himself in a filtered tank. Thank You.

Answer
Cindy,
If he looks like he rolled around is salt, then it is Ich. The best way to treat this is to slowly raise the temperature of his water to 85 degrees and add salt to his water. Do a water change and in the new clean conditioned water dissolve 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt to 1 gallon of water. Once dissolved, add the salt water to his tank. ONLY add the salt to the water being added during a water change. With the heat raised, it speeds up the life cycle of Ich and kills it off. The salt will help heal any would left by the Ich. Once the Ich is gone, start removing the salt from the water. Salt does not evaporate so it has to be removed. To remove it, just do the water changes as usual but DO NOT add the salt to the clean conditioned water. All the salt should be removed by the 5th water change. At the same time you will slowly drop the temp of the water back down to 80 degrees. If this does not sound like what he has, let me know.
