Re sick beta fish

My beta fish appears to be swollen or swelling right under mouth towards the back.  it looks like he is growing a big puffy beard.  it appears that if you took a needle he would just pop.  it is so big now, it appears you can see straight through him.  any advice. thanks

Poor little fella. It could be an internal infection that is causing fluid buildup. I would first clean his tank and then put him in the warmest place in your house. The water temperature must stay at 80f to 82f for him to be able to heal. You may have to put a lamp close to his tank to get it up that high. Just be very careful the water doesn't warm up too much and don't let a lamp cause a fire danger or get too close to the water. Get a medicine called "Maracyn 2" at the local fish store and use it according to the directions, or go the following web page link for directions on dosing small tanks;
