Beta in pond

Question
This summer, I placed my Beta in my goldfish pond. I recently took it out and put it in a fishbowl because it was starting to get cold. At what temperature should it be brought in? Is it common to keep them in a pond with goldfish?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jenna;

I've never heard of anyone putting their betta out in a pond with the goldfish. Many people do keep their bettas outdoors in the warmer months in their own tanks or little ponds. (keep containers out of the full sun) It's kind of risky sometimes though because bettas don't do well below 75f, but watch the outside temperature next summer and he should be fine. Be careful that the goldfish haven't grown big enough to eat him too. Goldfish have big mouths that can swallow a betta. Yikes!
