Question
yes it is a pond but not a natural pond but its big enough to store bass and crappie and heres another problem if the goldfish in our pond didnt survive then how come the carp and koi survive

Answer
Hello,
Alright, sorry for my confusion.

I am actually an avid carp fisherman, and some of the places these fish thrive never fails to amaze me. The can tolerate temperatures from 33*F-100+*F and they can find food in just about any environment. To top it off, they can gulp air to use the oxygen in the air, so as far as fish go, there isn't anything nearly as though as these fish.

Koi fish are actually just a domesticated version of the common carp (aka mirror carp, grass carp, leather carp, etc.), they are both scientifically know as cyprus carpio. Koi are domesticated so they are slightly smaller, and more fragile, but still very tough.

The two types of cyprus carpio have other things to there advantage against goldfish, and they are size and the fact that goldfish simply aren't as tolerant to extreme conditions as their larger counterparts.

Goldfish are native to ponds with no predators, so they have poor defense against larger fish, but common carp are quite the opposite. Everything will try to attack them for food or territorial reasons.

Hope this cleared a few things up.
