Jack Dempseys eating behaviors

I bought ten rosy's to feed my 3-4" Dempseys - they ate one each yesterday (I have 3 Dempseys) How often can I put these live food in the tank?  And, the Dempsey's turned extremely dark - is that from getting live food?

Hi Cathy,
 I prefer not to feed my fish with feeders. Unfortunately, feeder fish all too often are carrying various diseases, such as ick, which they easily transmit to your cichlids.  Every week I get emails from people who have lost or are losing their oscars or Jack Dempseys from this.
