Question -
one morning i woke up to feed my fish their daily meal...i noticed that one fish had died and that the filter was sucking it in...so i took it out and cleaned the tank and replaced the entire tank with new conditioned and filtered water. the next day, i woke up to find 1 of my comet and 1 of my fantails to have gotten sick and fungus was forming on its body..of course,i quarentined the 2 fishes and put in drops of some anti-fungus i bought at our local petco.. its been about 20 hours and all the fungus disapeared from the fishes..but i noticed that the fish was still experiencing dropsy. should i put the 2 fishes back into my 40 gallon tank with my two tetras, and 4 other comets? ive had these fish for months and i love them very much..i dont want to see them go.. so please help me out and tell me what to do ..

also..the same time i noticed the fungus on the fishes..i noticed some blood on one of my comets..i examined it and there was no wounds, so i concluded the bleeding was internal..i quarintined the fish with no medication or anything because i didnt know what was the problem..i hope u can tell me what the problem is and recommend me some really good medicine for this problem...

hopefully u can help save my adored fish and help me be prepared when this happens again.

p.s if its helpful

these fish are kept in a Eclipse System 6 with a really good filter which i dont know the name..i keep so far i have 8 fishes in this tank..i clean the water every week and put conditioner in it...the fantail is 3 inches long inclluding tail..and the comet is 2 inches long..

Hi Kelvin,
I would keep the other fish isolated for at least a week to see what happens before putting them back in the 40 gallon tank.

I can't say what was causing the bleeding.  Most likely it was some external wound.  Internal wounds don't usually cause bleeding that you can see.

Answer
Hi Kevin,
I would keep those other fish isolated.  Just because you can't SEE fungus anymore, doesn't mean that it isn't there. You are taking a big risk if you put them back now.

I can't recommend a medicine for the bleeding fish because I don't know what is wrong with it.  Keep in mind that many fish medicines are very strong and they can easily kill a fish so you should never just throw a bunch of medicine in the water hoping that it will do something.  Only treat what you know.

Cloudy eye occurs because another fish has bitten him in the eye.  It will heal if the fish is left alone for a few weeks.
