Question
QUESTION: hi lynda, thanks again. I already bought furan2 for his med,i clean up the water first with siphoning then add new water, dissolve the med into the water.do i need to feed him now? can I still add salt to the water while it has meds? just yesterday i noticed a very few waste came from him, unlike the other day he does not waste even a little, i observed also he's trying to move around a little but still go back to the lying position when he gets tired, just awhile ago while cleaning up the water, when he start moving to the other side i noticed there is a white frost covering in his left eye, the side where he was lying for some days, is it caused by permanently lying on that side or is it a disease? i am worried about it. please advise. thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Cynthia,
Never add salt with Swim Bladder Disease.  If he is wasting this is good.  Feed him one more frozen cooked pea, and nothing else for two days.  Remember to remove the outer layer.  If he is eating, this is a good sign, but you want him to clean out his system, so no feeding besides the pea for two days.
Furan 2 is a good medication.  It is used to heal many diseases, including cloudy eye.
Follow the directions on the package, do not overdose, and write back to me in a few days to let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: Thanks Lynda. When I arrived today I see his situation improved he is trying to move around and can now swim up but cannot hold on for long. It is his eyes that I worry about. Until when can I keep the water with meds before I change it? I also asked about bloodworms in the petshop but they have this frozen one,I plan to feed him with it once he has fully recovered.Yes, I will update you of his development. I will also continue writing you for more questions and update. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Cynthia,
You are very welcome.
Make 25% water changes every 2 days, and repeat treatment 4 times.  This medication should help his eyes.  Remove the carbon in the filter, if you have left it in.  Carbon removes medication, so it is best to remove it.  At the end of the treatment do another 25% water change, and make sure your water as no ammonia, or nitrites in it.  This is very important that his water chemistry be right.   Clean water usually cures eyes.  It's good that he is wasting, and moving around a little.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will pull through.
Lynda
