Question
Hi,
I have an African Ciclid that's 8 years old. He has been upside down at the bottom of the tank for weeks, he comes up normally to eat but when is is just resting, it's upside down. He's in a 29 gallon tank with a TopFin charcoal filter. He has a little discoloration on his scales, one spot is light black. Is he just old?

Answer
Hi Russ,
Sadly, it sounds like he is old and near the end of his life. Once a fish loses control of its buoyancy it is very difficult for it to survive for long.
