Question
I have a high PH level in my fish tank and i just wanted to know how to lower it.  I have some fake plants and a real rock that i bought in the pet shop in the tank, along with 6 fish.  I also would like to know if the fish tank's filter can have any effect on lowering or raising the PH level.  Thank you for your time.- Jacob

Answer
Hi.
No, a filter does not affect the pH of the water. How high is it? As long as it is between 6.5 and 7.5 it is ok for most fish. Also, a lot of fish like hard water. If you have livebearers, such as Mollies, Platies or Guppies, they like hard water. On the other hand, if you have Tetras or other small Characins, they like more acidic water. I am not a fan of using the pH-Down products; they can do more harm than good to your tank. But if you have fish that prefer acidic water, you can try the pH-Down and see if it works.
Good luck,
Kathryn
