Question
i have had this fish for over a year i have two Mollies and 2 goldfish ,tank has been set up for 2months recently had to change tank because of crack.
Change water every month. The filter is a fluval 3 plus.
We thought the fish had lost one eye somehow,but as time has passed we have noticed that the other eye is disappearing, the eye is going inside or the skin is bulging over and around the fish's eyes,the fish can hardly see. the other fish in the tank seem to be fine. the is finding hard to eat because it cannot see the food.
Is there anything i can do for the fish.
Thank you

Answer
Hi Ashlie;

I really don't think there is much you can do. There are diseases that cause the inside of a fish's eye to collapse. Bacterial, fungal, parasitic and viral are all possible but they are rare. It's very possible that your goldfish are sucking at the eyes of your molly and causing damage to the eyeballs themselves. It would be best to isolate the molly so it doesn't have to compete for food. Fish have a 'sense of smell' so if given the opportunity they can find it.

Goldfish just do that to other fish sometimes. They are best kept to a "goldfish-only" tank. Mollies are not compatible with them for other reasons too. Mollies are tropical and goldfish are coldwater. Goldfish also get big and messy too. It would be best to get a separate tank for them. Goldfish need ten gallons for each fish so for two goldies, get them at least a 20 gallon with a good filter and they should be very happy. Here is a profile page about them to know more;
