yellow lab cichlid babies

Question
i didn't try breeding, it just kind of happened, and now i don't know what to do. the mother died, i kind of suspected she was brooding from her behavior and all the things i read on cichlid behavior. so now the father is very protective of a certain area in my aquarium and i actually just saw the babies tonight. i had no idea they were in there.  but anyway my question is what do i do? i know to feed them baby brine shrimp, but my problem is that i have some jack dempseys and red zebras in the aquarium too. which unfortunately is how i noticed the babies, i was just walking by the aquarium and stopped to see how my fish were doing and i noticed the baby, and before i could do anything my jack dempsey ate it. i still have 2 for sure that i saw. i was also wondering how many babies do yellow labs usually spawn.

Answer
Hello,
First, I would like to tell you that Jack Dempseys are true to their name.  As they get bigger, they attack, injure, and kill fish.  They should be kept in a 50 gallon tank, alone, or with a mate.  Always read up on fish with names like Green Terror, or Red Devil, these fish are very aggressive, and territorial.  They should not be mixed with Yellow Labs.
When keeping Africans, you must observe what is going on, and you should have another tank for a pregnant female.  The female is always a good little mother, and looks after her fry.  Your babies should be with their father in another tank.  He will defend his fry, but he is no match for the greedy Jack Dempsey.  Yellow Labs can have 30 or more fry.  The water in another tank should be exactly the same as the water the fry are in now.  For now, I fear it may be too late to save the little babies, especially with a Jack around.  Observation is the key.
