Question
hi again. before reading your answers i did a lot of looking on the net and i think that i might not be suited for ciclids...and that's a good decision to make before i go out and buy some. i liked your answer to one lady about chosing between different families of fish. but there are so many to chose from. i'm easy...some nice colorful mid-size fish would make me very happy.(anf of course that would make the fish very happy) i am starting a 55 gal tank. could you suggest a family that would give me the most variety of non-aggressive community fish...or families that are compatable across breeds.
thanks for your advice.

Answer
Hi Alan,
I just wrote you a letter...here goes again...lol
Nice hardy fish, with no problems would be Rainbow fish.  They are beautiful fish, and schooling fish.  "Bossemani Rainbow" is very pretty, and the "Red Rainbow" is fantastic!  There are many others, and all are nice.  You could put 6-8 of them in your new tank, but wait until your tank has cycled, and add them two at a time, like I mentioned in my last letter.
Look up the rainbow fish, and see if you like them.
You could also add 6 little cory catfish.  They are really cute, and love to be kept in groups of 6 or more.
Add tall silk plants, and little ones at the bottom.
I have never had any problems with rainbow fish.  It is a real problem to choose fish, there are so many different kinds, and families to see.  I would recommend Rainbow fish for a no problem tank, and the fact that they are pretty, just makes it better.
Look them up, and let me know what you think of them.
