Answer
Hello Francis,
The problem you are having is called "New Tank Syndrome". It happens with every tank.

What happens is because the eco system needs to establish its self. Fish waste and decaying food will become Ammonia witch is toxic to fish. Then the Nitrifying bacteria will come into the tank naturally and establish its self. The Nitrifying bacteria is not only good, but will permanently stay in the tank and feed on the ammonia.

The byproduct of this will be a Nitrite spike. Nitrites are toxic to fish too but will go away over a week or so.

Then the eco system in the tank is finally established and you will no longer have this problem. It all sounds complicated but is you have any questions along the way, I will be more than happy to help.

You do not need any medicine to fix this problem though you may loose more fish on the way.

A good investment is a water test kit. You can buy them at most pet stores.

There are many natural foods for your fish. What fish do you have? I can help you more with everything if I know what fish you have.

I will be happy to answer any more questions you have!
Good Luck!
