filter and time

Hi mick,
   I recently bought a 29 gallon fish tank at petmart and i have a couple of questions for you. Do I run the filter 24/7 365 days a week? If so will that cause a major increase on my electricity bill? Also I just bought the tank Sunday and I set it up Sunday, the lady at petsmart said to keep the tank running for a week with no fish in it. What is your opinion? One more thing, do you know of any freshwater fish that are colorful for my tank?  If you can get back to me I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you for you time. Robert.

Hi, i have 4 filters and they do fine, also consume little electricity. And yes you MUST run the filter 24/7 365 days a year.I also TOTALLY disagree i have had fish and cept fish for 16 years and have let the water run for only about 5 hours maximum and my fish are doing fine and healthy. Yes i know a couple of fish that may go good with each other here is the list..... 3 young and healthy angel fish....one male betta fish wich is probibly the most colorful freshwater fish.....4 medium tetra fish......one plecostomus or SUCKER FISH......and maby 2 female betta fish, Do not mix male betts with each other or they may kill each other simply buy one and it should efinatelly go well with the other fish, you may put female bettas with the male!THANKS!
