if not will and get sucked into and cause it to be damaged?

Hi,
Yes, that is a sponge filter with a power head a supposed to an air stone. These are much more effective but defeat the purpose for me because they can be dangerous to fry.
The sponge is a lot more ridged than it looks, and they have guards so they do not get sucked in. Unless you're breeding vey small fish, this would be a very good filter for a small to medium tank.
