Question
Hi
I just finish setting up my new 36g bowront tank. I also have many live aquatic plants & one big mopani wood. I try to understand the process of cycling fish tank but i just can't really get it. So can you help me with the cycling my new tank? I have AmQuel+ as my dechlorinator but it also removes "Ammonia and Nitrite" which is an improtant part in cycling my tank. should I also buy another brand of dechlorinator for my tank that doesn't nemoves ammonia and Nitrite?
Thank You

Answer
Quan,

Cycling take 2 to 3 weeks. During this time you are "setting up" the filter. The dechlorinater that you are using is a good product, and no you do not need to add any other chemical to the tank. Continue testing the water and if for 3 days in a row there is no ammonia or nitrites in the water than your tank has set up and you can start adding fish. Add one fish every 2 weeks and make sure you quarantine that fish for 2 weeks in the hospital tank before adding it to your main tank.
