Question
HI Ron, I have a mature 55 Gallon Malawi Cichlid Setup. I have kind of a controlled crowded set up. Several Bumblebees and Yellow Labs It seems to keep the aggression down.
My main problem is, I need more aeration. I do 20 percent weekly partial water changes. My present filters are a HOT MAGNUM Canister Filter in which i use Black Diamond substrate, and I constantly have to maintain it. It seems to lose capacity fast. The other Filter is a Marineland Penguin 300 Biowheel , which produces very little aeration. Can you suggest any better filtration system. Or do you think if I maybe I add a  good powerful powerhead aerator? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
Your best bet is to get an airpump and a good airstone. That will provide the best aeration.
Your filters sound fine. In general, I do not count on a filter to provide any aeration, unless I am using a sponge filter, which is air-driven.
