Leaving fish tank for 2 weeks

Question
Hi Jon,
I need your help. I have a 20 gallon tank with tetras. This summer I am going on vacation for two weeks, and no one to take care of them. I believe there is something you can buy that will feed the fish for the 2 weeks. Also I think there is a timer light you can buy. Please tell me if I'm right. Now for the real question. Do you think they will be OK. unattended while I'm gone? I would appreciate any help you can give me.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Pat,

Never feed your fish on a with a pellet.  They will kill your fish and destroy your tank, no matter what brand you buy.  They are a worthless product.

With that said, there are some nice timers on Ebay.  I do recommend the timer method and not the other.

I don't think they will be perfectly fine without someone to supervise.  Perhaps you can pay a teenager to come by and check them every 3 days or so. :)

I hope this helps and I want you to know the original person you asked must have not known the answer.  They sent these to what is called a "question pool" where experts can answer the questions for you.  I don't know how long it was in his box, but we just got the referrals tonight, and I am diligent on answering them as soon as they appear.  With that said, I answered your question as soon as I saw it.

:)

Please don't hold his tardiness against me on the ratings.

Happy fish-keeping.
