Question
QUESTION: hi there. recently i've noticed a change in the colour of my gravel. i have a fairly new tank and i try my best to keep it clean. my gravel is white and it's starting to turn brown especialy along the edges also my artifical plants are turning brown as well. any info would be greatly appriciated. thanks -billy

ANSWER: Hi, well it sounds like you have brown algae what i would do is get a pleco or an algae scraper a pleco would do a better job of getting rid of the algae though. The aquarium light should not be on for more then 10 hours a day and their shouldn't be any other light facing the aquarium either. Their are algae removing products, but i never use them because they are a waste of money, time, and life. Please reply to my questions and then i can give you an answer on the pleco. Does your tank have a filter, heater, and fish.

QUESTION: Thanks for the speedy reply. The answer to your question is yes I have a filter, heater and fish. I also have a sucker fish but it does not clean the gravel. In your opinion what is the best way to keep my gravel shiny white?

Answer
Well to keep it shiny white you will want to do weekly water changes of about 25% and stick the siphon in the gravel so all the food, waste, Ect. gets sucked up. You don't want to get an under gravel filter i have had them and when it made my ammonia spike i pulled it out and their was a disgusting blob of green stuff it was horrible.
Please anymore questions you have just ask!!!
