I think my goldfish is blind.

Question
I bought a telescope eyed goldfish a while ago and he has had a lot of problems. I do know they don't see well to stat with but now his eye's are completely glazed over with a white film. I'm worried that he might not last much longer. Is there anything I can do to help? He seems to be able to see food but he doesn't swim much and he bumps into the sides of the tank constantly.

Answer
Anna,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. From what you told me i think he has whats called Cloudy eye. This is usually brought on by a bacterial infection. The number one reason goldfish get cloudy eye is water quality. I hope he is in a 20 gallon tank minimum and that you do water changes every week. Goldfish and bad water go hand in hand. I would get a medicine called MelaFix and follow the directions on the bottle. If you do the weekly water changes and add aquarium salt to the new water every time, will help keep your fish from getting these problems. I hope this helps.
