Question
I have had a pair of societies for about a month and a week now. They have a wicker basket that they use to nest in and I offer plenty of vegtables ang friuts. I have been trying to encourage them to mate and breed but I have been unsuccessfulso far. I am certain that one is a male and one is a female, so i know that this is not the problem. Is there anything else I can do to encourage these birds to mate or will I be forced to give up?

Answer
Hmm it sounds like you have done everything in your power but societies are fickle that way. They are easy to breed but the conditions have to be right.
Do you have seeds and the veggies near the nest? It might make the female more comfortable.
Have either of them investigated the nest yet? Is there nesting material in the nest or somewhere where the birds can put it in themselves?
Do you have a heat lamp to keep the cage at a nice cozy temperature?
Do they get fresh water everyday and fresh food every three days?
Is the bottom of the cage cleaned regularily?
Are you absolutely positive that they are male and female? Socities are very social and will bond with the same sex. The best way to tell is just to get a DNA test.

This is all I can offer at this moment with the information you have given me. If all these demands are met, it should just be a matter of time.
