Question
QUESTION: Outside the cage are a lot of feathers and the daddy finch looks like he is balding around his head and shoulders. The babies are about a week old and mom finch is healthy with all feathers in tact. Is he stressed? Is she picking on him? Should I put more cotton nesting material in their cage?? Help, please.

ANSWER: It sounds like she it picking at him. Just move him into a seperate cage.

QUESTION: Moved dad finch, but can she rear 4 babies on her own? When can I or can I ever put him back in the cage with her and babies?

Answer
I would keep an eye on her and see if she is taking care of the young.  If not, try the dad and if the dad doesn't take care of the babies, you will have to. You can get hand feeding food from pet stores and I have an informative artice I can give yout he link to on hand feeding.
You should give them time apart until he is fully recooperated and then try introducing them again slowly (by putting their cages side by side) and watch their reactions to eachother.
