Budgie Behavior Issues!

Question
Hello Leah! My budgie has gotten worse! She bit the male on the neck really hard and he was twitching. Yesterday, some saints came to my house and they told me that in our religion(Sikhism) it is cruel to keep budgies or animals trapped in cages. My parents agree with them and now they want to release the budgies into the wild. Note: I live in Ontario, Canada and the temperatures aren't as hot as Australia. Please list all the pros and cons of letting them go. I even told them that they're a lot of predators outside and they say that I am not God and he will decide if they shall live or die. Please answer soon because they say they will release them while I am at school. What should I do? I am very attached to the budgies and don't want them to die.

Answer
Pros:
*they won't bite you anymore
*No more mess, hassle

Cons (I can tell you a lot)
*They won't survive Ontario's winters
*They will likely be eaten
*Since they've never had to fend for themselves, they probably won't know how to find proper food
*You will regret this decision for the rest of your life.

In my religion (Judaism), there is a strong principal "tza'ar ba'alei chayim", or do not cause suffering to life.  Basically, the belief is that a person who is cruel to a defenseless animal will undoubtedly be cruel to defenseless people.  If you release them, they will die.  But it won't be quick and painless, they will slowly suffer and starve or freeze to death.  I too believe that this is God's decision as to whether they live or not, but God also granted us free will, yes?  It is up to you to decide whether or not to keep them or let them fend for themselves.

My advice to you is to just let them be cage birds.  That way, you can keep them, though you can't handle them.  But they will be safe.  If you really, really don't want to keep them, find them another owner rather than letting them die.
