Budgies Cere

Question
Our budgie is about two and a half and friendly, though not exactly tame.  Her cere has always been very brown.  Today, we noticed that the brown appears to be peeling off on one side (almost like a scab, though not very thick) and there is white with blue underneath.  She/He seems healthy and energetic and is eating, drinking, chirping, and playing like normal.  Any idea what's going on?  Is she healthy?

Answer
Hello Erin! This is completly normal for a healthy female keet. During the breeding season when females are ready to breed their cere will be a wonderful deep brown and appear to be flaking or peeling off. Many of my females ceres do the same thing, its just the hormones in a way going wack, their saying "come on lets breed! lets breed!" It will soon look normal after her breeding urge has dwindled. The cere is preparing for yet another breeding season. But nothing to worry about, your keet is very healthy!
