Bourke Parakeet

Question
My background, I've had parakeets and conures for years so I have a good concept of birds.

I recently acquired a 4 month old Rosey Bourke. (Sweetest bird)  The breeder I got him from said parakeet seed mixed with parakeet feed (Zupreem).  He's not a big eater but I recently read that bourkes should have canary seed, not parakeet seed.  Note:  he also gets fresh baby spinach, carrots, broccoli, sunflower kernels and small pieces of apple every couple days.  He's really my first parakeet (my first bourke) that ate anything but seed and zupreem mix.  Should he get canary seed instead of parakeet and will he get enough nutrition from canary seed?

Answer
Hello Beth,

I am sorry, but i do not know much about a Rosey Bourke parakeet. My expertise is in budgies. But i will be happy to give you as much info as i can. I found a good website for you that gives the basic diet of a Rosey Bourke. It says you should offer them canary seeds with some safflower and sunflower seeds.

Giving them a whole bunch of fruits and veggies is great for them and continue to do that.

I'm sorry i don't know much on this subject!
I hope i was able to help in some way!
Thank you for the question!
