Question
QUESTION: Ok, so I have this parakeet named Bloo, short for Blooregard Q. Kazoo. I was pretty sure that she was a SHE because her cere above her beak is pink....but latley, it has been changing from pink to blue. Sometimes it's pink, sometimes it's blue, and sometimes it's both! Does that mean that she's (or he's?!) still a baby? Or what does it mean?

ANSWER: If the cere is changing colors, it's probably pretty young.  Some varieties of budgie are bred to get certain genes, like pied varieties, in which case the male will develop a pinkish blue cere.  The bluish is the norm for the male, the pinkish is the weird gene kicking in.  Its normal, don't worry, he's just still growing up.

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: I think that she's just still a baby. Some people say that if they're still a baby, that they have lines starting from their forehead. The lines start right in the middle of her head, does that mean anything?

Answer
I'd guess he's about four to six months old, based on the fact that his cere's still changing.  This is sexually mature, but still young.  They can live up to 20 years with proper care, but 8-14 is normal.  The lines can be an indication that its still young, but in some birds these lines last for a long time.  One of my birds is ten years old, and she still has baby lines!
