Question
Hi Sherrie,

I sincerely if you could help me by your suggestions. My lovebirds (they have a green body with a orange face and red beak)have laid 6 eggs in the past 2 weeks. I am totally unsure of what I should do when they hatch..should I provide a bigger cage? what food should I give them? how should I care for them and will all 6 hatch? Please help. Thanks a lot

Answer
Hi felcy,

Your lovebirds will feed thier babies, for a while they will remain in the nesting box but you will have to provide a bigger cage soon
All six probably won't hatch and laying egs and caring for babies is very exhausting for the mother, and if this is her first clutch(which i'm assuming it is) she may not quite know what to do and the babies may die I know this is very sad but unfortunatley it happens :( you can get a baby rearing mix from pet shops and you may have to syringe feed the babies if you decide to care for them yourself. You will also need to provide the chicks with heat lamp  (available from the reptile section of your pet store)I know it's very tempting to continually sneak a peek in the nesting box :) but try to limit this as it distresses the mother.
Good luck with new babies!
