new cage

Question
Hi,
Hopefully you can help me.  I bought a budgie from a pet store about 2 months ago.  When I bought him I could only afford a small cage and planned to buy a bigger one at a later date.  When he was housed in the small cage we taught him to step up, let him fly around our living room, and he would hang out on our hands or various tables.  I have since bought a larger much nicer cage and now he won't come out of it.  He still steps up but when we bring our hand towards the opening he jumps onto his perch.  We have also moved the cage from a bedroom to the livingroom. I assumed he needed time to get used to the new cage but it has been about a week.  Why is he now afraid to fly around a room he has been flying around for 2 months?  How can I help get back to where he was with us?

Answer
Hi kristen!

When your budgie was in his old cage is was smaller, and he probably felt the need to leave his cage because of its small size, but now that he has a bigger cage he probably feels he doesn't need as much exercise. If you work with him you'll probably be able to get him back into a routine where he lives the cage, just keep working with him! And I'm sorry it took so long to reply to your question!

Hope this helps!
