Parakeet right wing feathers not wanting to fall in place!

Question
Hi Sherri,
Pitchoo is a 9 year old parakeet.  A few months ago, after taking a bath and being wet, he flew around the room and missed a landing.  As a result, one of his main feathers from the right wing got "out of place".  After spending the day preening, Pitchoo used a last trick and tried to cut the feather away.  He didn't quite succeed, and the result was worst:  the feather was now sticking up.  I went to the vet the next day, and he cut the feather (he didn't want to pluck it out).  Since then, Pitchoo's flight has been a little unbalanced, but he managed to go around as usual (I could see differnet tail movements though).
A couple days ago, I noticed that another feather from the same wing has started to get out of order again.  Pitchoo is spending a lot of time trying to put it in the right order, but it keeps overlapping other feathers.  His flight ability is now impaired, and he is more nervous about flying.  He hasn't started chewing the misbehaving feather yet, but I wonder what to do.  Should the vet cut that one feather too?  Poor Pitchoo won't be able to fly high...  I'd like your advice!
Thank you!
Julie

Answer
Hi Julie,

You sound like such a lovely owner, poor little pitchoo! You will have to take him to the vet and get the feather cut or plucked or it will drive Pitchoo insane budgie's are perfectionists whenit comes to grooming so this feather is probably irritating him alot!
Try to stop him flying until his feather is fixed as he is at risk at injuring himself whilst flying as he sounds like he has lost a bit of his flight control.

Goodluck!
