Question
Hi, I have what I hope is a pair of english budgies.  I finally noticed an egg in the box this morning, but later in the day, I noticed that the male (blue cere) was in the box. Does the males ever incubate the eggs?

Answer
Hello Lynn! Males are a big part of the incubation and the raising of the chicks. The male will sit on the eggs with the female or while the female is eating or resting outside the nest, the male will take over and watch the eggs. The male will also feed the female and guard the box. Sometimes if the females dies and leaves chicks, the male will actually take the females role and care for the young. A good dedicated male budgie is indeed a wonderful breeder. A male that doesn't take part in incubation or raising the young is not a good breeder.
good luck with the eggs!
