Question
my female budgie has layed 3 eggs and after that she let my male mate with her for like only about 10 seconds and she has layed more eggs will they be firtile. because i don't think they have mated long enough.

Answer
Hello! When females are ready to mate, they will let the male climb on their backs and do so. Most of the time it goes unseen. He had probably already mated with her before and she laid three eggs. Once in the breeding mood, a male will mate with a female multiple times. Most of the time the male's sperm will make it successfully into the hens oviduct and make the eggs fertile. Mating does only last abot 10 secs, to 30 or 40 secs. Even though so short, its enough time for the male to fertilize the female. After she lays a clutch of 5-6 eggs (could be more iv had a keet lay 10!) she will sit on them till they hatch. Babies take about 18 days to hatch. Some eggs might be duds. Not all eggs get fertilized, but there is usally only 1 or 2 duds out of 5 or 6. good luck!
