Question
I have had a budgie for over a year now and im uncetain about its gender. it has a purpulish cere with white edjes and I was wondering if it was male but im not sure.
thank you

Answer
Hello Angel! Some budgies take a little bit longer to mature than others. Yours probably has had its adult molt but the cere has yet to change color which means the bird is not sexually mature. A males will be deep blue and younger females ceres can be white but if it is purple than it is still a baby. The brown in the females cere really shows up during breeding season. The cere will be a deep brown and appear crusty. It may be another couple months before the cere on your baby shows up. If i had to take a wild guess i would go towards a female, but this is only 20% accurate. As 2 years approach, the gender should be more clear.
