Question
I have a 2 wek old baby budgie who's legs stick straight out to the sides. Is this due to the mother and other baby sitting on him or is he sick? When you pich him up and push his leg's in he grip's onto your finger but just sit's on his belly in the nesting box.

Answer
It sounds like your budgie is suffering from a condition called splayed leg.  It's not caused by being sat on, and it's not really an illness.  Thankfully this condition can be corrected if caught earlier.  The method that I've used to correct this involves taking a strand of soft yarn and basically making a brace that holds the chick's feet into a natural position.  As the cartilage in the legs turns to bone, the damage can often be corrected.  Use a neutral colored yarn which the parents aren't going to be too likely to notice and pull off.  After a week or two, depending on the severity of the condition, you can remove the yarn and hopefully he should be able to walk around like a normal budgie.
