Question
I am training my male budgie, but the problem is that he is not having any treats .He only eats bird seeds. He is only 2 months old and he is clipped. Is it ok ?
He is kept in a pair ,when will his spouse start laying eggs?

Answer
Hello Niraj,

It is ok if you do not offer him treats while training. Just a simple "Good Boy/Girl" in a happy voice is sufficient. A diet should not consist of all seed. Fruits and veggies are healthy for the birds. Budgies particularly like parsley and apples.

A budgie becomes physically mature to breed at 3-4 months. But it is unhealthy to breed them at this age. Once a budgie is 1 year old, then it is safe to breed them. Once your budgie is a year old, add a nest box to his and his mates cage. The female will explore the box and they will soon mate and lay eggs. But they have to be the proper age first.

Hope this helps!
