I recently found that three young budgies have hatched in the nesting box. During the first two weeks both male and female would care for the chicks. What has happened now is that the female is chasing the male around the cage, which is very surprising. What should I do.

Answer -
Hello Kenneth! Female budgies can be very agressive when caring for a brood. If she is not hurting the male then keep the male in the cage. A little agression twords even the father is normal. If she gives him wounds then remove the male. The hen depends on the male to feed her and take care of the babies sometimes. So after a little time out of the cage put the male back in for a bit. Taking the male out and giving the female more space will ease her agression. good luck!

Hi Kenneth! You sent me a follow up Q but there nothing written there. Is your female still agressive? do you need some more help? if i missed something before let me know.

Answer
Hello again! sounds like a grumpy female! If the chick is weaned and eating on its own then remove the chick from the females cage. Even hens will attack the babies after they've come out of the nesting box because she does not want the baby to hurt her other younger chicks. If you are not sure if the baby is completely eating on its own then put the male in with the baby. The male will still continue to feed the chick. This behavior is normal when hens are breeding. They get very possesive of their babies. Theres not much else ypu can do but to remove the oldest chick from the cage. keep an eye on the other babies as well. good luck!
