inner ear?

Question
Thanks, Peavy thanks you too. I'm sorry about your bird, even though most of the people I know had keets that died somehow, I don't think I'd ever be the same if that happened to me.

I hate this but a little boy in our neighborhood was spending the day with us while his mom was at work, he was looking at the keets and said that his uncle had one, we asked him something to spike conversation and he said oh he doesn't have it anymore , "HE FORGOT TO FEED IT" (if I forgot to feed my baby he'd let me know, exactly how long do you have to neglet a keet to kill it?!) (I think the responsibility was too much and he just didn't want it anymore), I just can't believe there are people out there like that. I thought about turning him in, but you know noone would do anything, I found a dying oppossom in my street, it had been hit by a car and beaten by my neighbor, who was afraid of it, the poor thing had a broken jaw and kept stumbling just trying to stay awake. A cop drove by and when he saw what we were trying to protect he parked his car so that everyone would have to go around him. (we need more people like that in the world I think.) We called everywhere and everyone kept referring us, saying it wasn't in there department, eventually I found a woman who cared, I told her the whole story but then she said that she couldn't help me, she was with the humane society I think. We stayed outside for about two hours and eventually had to leave I don't know what happened to it but we never saw it again.

Thank You for talking to me, Abbey

You can say that again, the poor baby was so traumatized I felt so bad for putting him through that. I thought he was cute at first, but you know falling in love was bound to happen. Once a few months ago I let him out without knowing the fan was on(he usually stayed away from it, but we turned it off to be on the safe side) he flew right into it and landed on my window seal(feathers went everywhere [:*(] ) I went to check on him, he had this look on his face like a deer in the head lights, I was so worried, I called all over town looking for a bird specialist, I put together a bed to take him to the doctor, and emptied out my bank to pay for it. My mom finally got through to one, they said not to bring him in just to wait for any sign of broken bones or things like that, that upset me(the nurse saying not to bring him in to me sounded like, no hope) within an hour he was wistleing and within a day he was flying, with the fan off!!! I think that was one of the worse day of my life, I still get upset when I talk about it.

-----Question-----
Yeah I live in Mississippi so that would be a problem, but if I ever move closer I will look you up.

I def. know about traveling with keets, I got mine at a petsmart, the one by our house didn't have a good selection and they didn't look greatly cared for, so we opted to go about fifteen minutes away to another petsmart. When we got there I wasn't REALLY looking for a bird(i didn't think my parents would let me) but then I saw the cutest little boy keet and had to have him, when we told the girl that worked there she said they'd run out of boxes so they put him in a (1'1/2" x 3') box that dog collars had come in, the box just barely fit between me and the dash board, we were so careful but sometimes you can't help bumps in the road (literally) that was a year ago, and i think he's just now getting over it(me too)!

-----Question-----
Hi I was reading your profile, I was looking to buy a tamed baby keet for some time, where are you located?

My female keet is about four months, I think. From the moment we saw her at the pet store she was hanging upside down, we thought it was just something cute that she'd eventually grow out of. We've had her about two months and she sleeps that way too, the only time she doesn't hang is if we let her out, in which case she sits on my boy keets cage, or if he's eating. I heard keets can develop inner ear problems really easy and I was wondering if that could be the culprit?

Hello Abby! I live in Rhode Island USA. Unfortunately i do not ship keets due to the stress and treatment when shipped. But if you do happen to live close by i could Def set up a date and reserve a keet for you. They cannot develop ear problems from hanging up-side down, but it is not normal behavior, but i do know several birds with this habit. It may also however, be a way of asking for more attention. Let your female keet out more often than you normally do. Give her some parsley spritzed with water to bathe in. Making her day more complex may resolve the up-side down habit. good luck

awwww *laughs* its so fun when you dont plan on buying a bird and end up coming home with one. Such wonderful little creatures! But if you ever move up near RI I welcome many! PetsMart and petco iv noticed dont have healthy keets many times. Petsmart is a little better than petco in caring for their birds. But the keets are still shipped in not the best conditions.

Oh my! Well not to worry, iv had my share of bird accidents to, some fatal and some not. One of my keets got stuck in a fly trap and i thought he was doomed. All his feathers came out and he was sticky for days. Now he is healthy as ever and even has produced many young. Another time one of my baby keets flew into my window and landed on the carpet. I took him into my hand and blood started coming out of his cere and eyes. Within seconds he was dead. Iv learned though, that when you have birds, accidents will happen. They are not our faults, but just the way things turn out. But we learn from them, i bought fly traps that are for windows and are safe for birds, also i always knock on my door before i enter to let the keets know im coming in. I'm sure the fan always stays off when he is out now! Keets are little feisty creatures and have a great will power and seem to make the best of things. Glad your keet wasn't hurt!

Answer
Thats terrible about the starving keet! It actually doesn't take that long for a keet to starve. Since their digestion is very quick they need to intake food a lot. After a day of no food, the keet is already weak. No problem talking to you, i enjoy talking to many of the questioners on here.
have a wonderful day!
