Question
Hi,

When i got up this morning, i heard one of the budgies make a sound(but it was THAT quiet took me awhile to work out it was them, let alone which one it was) We have two. One of them was making consistant slight noise. Same kind of sound as if you take a big breath every 2 seconds, or the sound in between 'sobs', but in VERY quiet chirp form. It was puffed up at the time, and normally they go quiet as soon as you get near the cage, but it kept going even though i was talking to it.

It moved from the swing to the perch and continued. It finally stopped. Is it sick?

Answer
Hello Stephanie! Wheezing can be a sign of a respiratory infection but also from obesity resulting from lack of exercise. If he is still wheezing and making weird sounds still, then put a heat lamp near his cage. When ever a bird is not feeling their best their body temperature drops and thats what makes them fluff up. Try giving them some weakly brewed lukewarm black tea to drink. Tea always make a bird feel better. Just keep the area dust free and clean. Make sure the heat lamp is on for the day and see if your bird improves. It may just be a phase, some birds go through little phases where they will cough or wheeze and then stop and never do it again, this is normal. If your bird is still breathing rather labored and looks overweight, make sure he gets enough exercise outside of his cage every day. hope he feels better :D good luck!
