When should I change and how?

Question
Hi, I was just wondering how I should change my parakeets cage? My pair of parakeets are breeding, and I want to keep the whole family together when the babies mature. So when should I change the cage before the eggs hatch or should I wait till the babies mature? Also when I do change the cage how should I get my birds into the new cage. Also, should I clean the nest box when it gets filled with droppings? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Mustafa!

I usually clean the cage when the eggs are half-way done incubating, but I've changed it the day a chick hatched and the babies were alright. When I do change the cage I usually stuff a cloth in the hole of the nesting box with the female inside, it does not upset them too much and they will continue incubating eggs. If you want, you can wait till the babies mature, it is your choice, as you know your birds better. When I change the cage I usually just pick my birds up and put them in the new/clean cage. I usually clean the nesting box after the youngest baby is 2 weeks old!

Hope this helps!
