Question
Hello My budgie died 1 year ago and I replaced it with a young male budgie to keep my female company.  The male bird wich is the new bird is in love with my 3 yr old female after about three months together my female started loosing feathers. I bought them a larger cage and now some of the feathers have grown back this has been going on for almost 1yr the birds get along, except the male is in love with the female and always wants to be near her I'm thinking this is what is causing her stress. I was thinking I should get another young female so my male can share his affections with another female as well therefore giving my older bird a break what do you think?

Answer
She may be plucking her own feathers.  Sometimes if they're getting ready to breed, they pluck feathers off their bodies so that their warm skin can have direct contact with the eggs.  Do they seem pretty affectionate together, or is the male the only one interested?

You could get another female, but some females do argue.  Especially when it comes to mates.  If there's only one male, sometimes they compete for him.  I would wait until the two you have are done courting.  That way the two females can meet and bond without the stress of competition.
