broken leg

Question
A few days ago i found my parakeet hopping around on one leg. While i was out he must have broken his leg. For a day he was very quiet and looked sickly so we gave him water through an eyedropper. We fixed the cage (and put a heat lamp on) so he can eat and drink easily and he has been active in walking around, eating, drinking, and chirping. Is the chance that he will live good?

Answer
Hello Sam! its good to know hes doing better! if he is eating and drinking then his chances are very good. The only thing you have to watch out for is an infection in the leg. Keep the heat lamp on him for a couple more days. A sign of an infection includes swelling around the leg area, listless, not eating or drinking, shaking, and weight loss. Give him some extra bird vitamins and examine his leg every other day. Make sure there is no swelling, if their is run some luke-warm water on top of a washcloth and hold it against the leg. He should be alright though ^_^ good luck!
